DIY: Braided Infinity Scarf

The holidays season is a very crafty time for me because it's the time to make handmade decorations and gifts. The last is not always an easy task, especially when the recipient is a guy. You can't really go wrong with a gal when giving her something cute and pretty (and perhaps sparkling). But it's a whole other story with the guys. This is where today's DIY projects comes in handy. It's an easy to make unisex braided infinity scarf. Quick, easy and guy approved!

I made it from a couple of old black t-shirts, but you could just buy a meter of cotton jersey. Be sure to click "read more" to see the tutorial.

You'll need:
- 1 meter of cotton jersey or 2 large men's t-shirts
- some pins and scissors
- sewing machine
- glue or glue gun

1. Firstly, prep you material. If you're using fabric, cut it in half vertically (meaning you'll get two narrower 1 meter long strips). Also cut 5cm of fabric off from on end of one strip. You'll need that for the connections later on.  If you're using old t-shirts, cut off the hems and cut off the tummy area as close to the armpits as possible. Now you should have a tube. Cut the tube open on one side. Cut two 5x15cm strips of fabric from the sleeve or the upper part of the t-shirt.

Take the 2 long strips of fabric and cut the ends into 3 strands as shown in the picture. The strands should be equal width. The length is really up to you. I cut mine up to about 25cm.

2. Braid both ends of both strips of fabric. Pin the ends so that the braids won't untangle.

3. Pin one end of strip 1 with one end of strip 2 joining the 2 strips of fabric. Do the same with the other ends. You should now have a circle.

4. Sew the ends of the braids together.
5. Now your 2 strips of fabric should be firmly attached to each other. That's an infinity scarf right there. You only need to neaten the connections.

6. Cut 2 5x15cm strips of fabric from the leftover fabric you cut off in the beginning (or the two strips you cut from the sleeves).

7. - 9- Use those strips to cover the braid connections (see the pictures). I simply used my glue gun, but you could also sew them in place by hand.

I love this project. I'd love to make one in every color to mix and match with different outfits. Next time I'd like to try a wider version with chunkier braids.
