My Style: Coral and floral

I love pulling out something handmade from my wardrobe. When I started sewing my own clothing about a decade ago, I had a dream of having an all-me-made wardrobe. Although that dream has shifted a bit, and I love having a combination of thrifted, refashioned, and sewn, it's still a wonderful feeling to wear a handmade item. And this pullover top is one of my very favorite items I've made for myself in the last year.

Since our move to Cologne is now certain, I'm faced with the challenge of decreasing my sewing stash to a movable size. Not an easy or pleasant task, I must say. I love all the fabrics I've gathered over the years, and it's going to be tough only taking a fraction of it with me. I still have a lot of this coral lace and jersey in my stash, and since I've already made a maxi dress and a pullover from it, it's one of those fabrics that won't make the cut.

So, I was thinking of making as many pullovers like this one as I can from the left-over fabric and selling them. What do you think? Would anybody be interesting in purchasing one?

My Style: Tried and true

Wearing: Dress / DIY; Jacket / thrifted; Bag / thrifted; Scarf / thrifted; Earrings / gift; Shoes / Jumex (from Cologne)

Giving the overwhelming evidence in my closet, it seems that peach is my favorite color. I almost named this post "Peach perfect, but then I remembered...I already did that. Hah!
This outfit is all my favorites in one - maxi dress in peach, fitted jacket and lots of floral details. And, the most important thing, a sunny day.

Daily Style: Date night

I haven't done a style post in ages, and quite honestly, I've been in a style rut these past couple of months. One of my resolutions for the New Year is to experiment more with my clothing and style. Stepping out of my comfort zone has always been hard for me, but there's where the real fun begins, isn't it?

We went out on a date night last night, and I thought I'd change it up a bit. It was a coffee date and a movie, so I went with a rather casual look with my summery floral jeans as the focus. I have so many pieces that only get worn during the warmer months, and I'm looking forward to mixing them into my winter wardrobe more.

By the end of the night I'd eaten way too much cake and fries, seen a pretty bad movie, and had a whole lot of fun. Let's do that again!

Outfit details:
Floral jeans - local mall
Lace heart tee - refashioned
Knit vest - vintage
Earrings - me-made

DIY Flower embellished t-shirt

I've probably said it before, but I'm not much of a t-shirt and jeans kind of girl, but sometimes they are just what the day requires. And sometimes I'm just lazy like that and don't feel like dressing. For those days, I like having a couple of feminine t-shirts in my wardrobe. I developed the fabric flower embellishment method a couple of years ago, and I've used it quite a lot since then - on t-shirt, sweaters, bags.

It's fairly simple and can be easily customized to your taste. Make the flowers bigger, smaller, add one or two or as many as you like, the way you like it.

First you need to cut long strips of jersey fabric about 5cm wide. The length of the strip will determine the size of the flower. Here's how you make the flowers:

Make as many as you want, bigger and smaller ones and then place them on the t-shirt according to your desired design. Pin them to the t-shirt and once you're happy with the way they look sew them onto the t-shirt. You can do this by hand or with a sewing machine. I usually do it with a machine, sewing a triangular seam on every flower. It's important that the seams secure the center and the end and every layer in at least one spot.

If you have any questions about the tutorial, just leave them in the comments and I'll try to clarify.

Happy designing!

Inspiration: Flowers all over the place

Flowers

flower crown

Hello! This year I am really anxious for spring, so I 'm mad about all kinds of floral clothes and accessories..and especially when they aren't just with flower prints, but actually covered with flowers!
Here are some of my favorite things I've found on the internet. They aren't this years fresh trends, but I find them ageless and astonishing!
