Big news!

It's official, you guys! We're moving to Germany! Wait! What? Why? When?...

Remember our trip to Cologne back in June? Well, now it's official that the auditions ended successfully for at least one of us. Rein has been accepted as a classical singing student at the Cologne University of Music and Dance. It's a fantastic school and I'm so incredibly happy for him to have this opportunity.
As for me, although I wasn't accepted I've decided to still go with him on this new adventure. What am I going to do in Cologne, you ask? Well, I have absolutely no idea, but somehow that doesn't make me anxious, or worried. Which is a first for me. I've always been the type of person who needs a plan and a goal in sight, but oddly enough, I'm really enjoying the freedom of not knowing what's next. It's somehow liberating, and also, exhilarating. I'm doing something I thought I'd never do, and I'm really proud of us for jumping head first into these foreign waters. It's going to be a hell of a ride, I can feel it already.

Rein is leaving at the end of September, and I will join him at the end of November once I'm done with work here in Tallinn. This also gives us some time to plan the move and think about the logistics of moving all my stuff to Cologne (I say "my stuff", because all of Rein's stuff fits into one suitcase). So, if anybody has moved to another country in this region and knows a good moving company, let me know.

It's been a roller coaster of a week, full of contrasting emotions. I'm so excited for our new dreams and adventures, but at the same time I'm sad to leave Estonia and move so far from our family and friends. I will miss them real bad. Which is why I'm glad we can wind down and enjoy the weekend with the people we love.

Sorry this post is such a mess of thoughts, but I'm still getting used to the idea myself.

Thanks for being here and letting me share!
xo Hanna

  4. You can no longer deny how courageous you are! :0 And I'll add "adventurous, daring, bold, and confident" to the mix of adjectives.....If any one can go cross-cultural, it's YOU! Didn't realize there were TWO singers in the fam - I picture you serenading one another like in the movies...I commend your immense support of Rein's talents and know you'll find your own path soon.

    Cheers!

    1. Ok, I can admit I feel a little courageous for doing this, but I get a lot of it from my hubby, who's always pushing me further, and who believes in me more than I. He's super talented, by the way, and that's my completely objective opinion :). Luckily, I have the good folks of Cologne university to back me up on this now.
Rein and I were in the same class in Georg Ots music college here in Tallinn, so we've done our fair share of serenading each other and together :D.

Thank you for your always kind and encouraging words, Martha!

  6. ha..ha.. ;-))...thats great and i believe you still will find something to do ! Most important Thing is to learn the german language. I think 90% of Germans speak a little bit english for Smalltalk - (just like me) ...but to get a job it's really important. Perhaps not to be a singer in a band or something like this... if you need help with German translations or officialism feel free to kontakt me !!

    1. Thank you, I'll be sure to contact you at some point! My German is actually pretty good, but I need to practice more to feel free speaking, but I imagine we'll need tons of help to get through all those official things and getting to know this whole new system (taxes and insurance and all that).

    1. Thank you! I've been there twice now And I already like it a lot. It feels very welcoming and I'm sure I'll find my place. Usually in life, opportunities will come when you're open to receive them. So, I'm hoping I'll find the right job for me eventually.

  8. Exciting indeed. :) Same here, if you ever any questions let me know. One thing I would recommend first off is to take a German class at a local Volkshochschule (community education). They usually offer German as a foreign language (Deutsch als Fremdsprache) classes. Not only will you be able to improve your German skills, but you will also meet other expatriates. Good luck with your move!

    1. Thank you, Heidi! I'll be sure to look into it. I think the most worry-some thing right now is to get our ducks in a row with all the important stuff, like getting an insurance, finding a job, and moving all our stuff across Europe. But, also, our apartment is totally empty, so id you have any suggestions where to get furniture for free or real cheap, let me know. :)
